About Highland Lake / Winsted, CT:
Also known as The Gateway to the Berkshire Mountains, Winsted is a unique small town in the middle of a revitalization. Property value are low yet the community assets are bountiful. There is a 440 acre lake, Highland Lake, with two public beaches and a great place for fishing, boating, jet skiing, ice skating, snow mobiling, etc. Also in Winsted is one of my favorite places in CT, The Gilson Cafe & Cinema - a wonderful idea for a night out with dinner and a movie all in one!
There are also some of my favorite eateries here as well. Kelly's Kitchen makes amazing breakfast food and is an excellent caterer. Also, McGrane's on The Green is my favorite casual breakfast spot with the best home fries in the world (after all these years, I finally was told their secret!). Mario's Tuscany Bar and Grill is great for italian food and a casual bar for an after dinner drink.
Winsted also has a Community College, Northwestern Connecticut Community College, which has been in discussions to potentially be a four-year college. Winsted also has some of the most amazing architecture, with some beautiful examples of Victorian, Italianate, and Georgian styles. Great town with a lot of potential.
